Dear Autism Momma,
Your child's autism meltdowns affect you deeply: you want to help them, relieve their pain, and overwhelm and because you love them so fiercely, you can't help but to go into an emotional tailspin when see them in so much pain.
Even worse? Strangers' stares, friends with neurotypical children (or no children) who can't relate, and questioning whether you're messing things up can leave you feeling isolated and alone.
From one Autism mom to another, I want you to hear this:
You are not broken. The fact the meltdowns affect you so deeply just shows that your love for your child is infinite.
That's why you need a safe and quick way to regulate after a meltdown, release the trauma and stress and reconnect with your heart and your child.
That's why I created the Calm After Chaos mini meditation bundle. This is a series of three short, powerful meditations meant to regulate you and your child's nervous system after intense outbursts and meltdowns. Short enough to listen to in the parking lot before moving on to the next appointment (or anywhere you can grab your earbuds and three minutes), powerful enough to inspire reconnection: with your calm and your child's.
I'll never forget the day my son went into a full-blow autism meltdown on a day at the park with my grandma and I. I'd had a fantasy about taking him there; it was the same place where my father had run among the Oak Trees and creeks as a boy. What a wonderful way to connect generations.
Well, my son started sobbing uncontrollably. My grandma started to perform an exorcism. I was so worried about my kiddo and so angry at my grandma, but my people-pleasing kept me quiet and frozen. As I finally got my son into the car and safe, the shame spiral started to hit me: I wasn't there to snap into action. I didn't stand up for him. I didn't know what to do.
My heart was racing for hours. The shame hangover lasted for, well, honestly, I'm still forgiving myself.
I created these tools because I wish I had them in those days. Now that I've been studying psychology at a doctorate level for several years, I know how important it is to come back to yourself: your heart, your wisdom, your intrinsic compassion and care.
These tools will help you be present faster. I hope they help you.
You deserve support that meets you where you actually are.
